Chhappar Phaad Ke on a losing streakBS ICE Bureau Sony Entertainment TV's Govinda-hosted game show, Jeeto Chhappar Phaad Ke, seems to be losing its appeal, with its TV rating points falling drastically. According to a market survey conducted by AC Nielsen (TAM), in the week ended March 17, JCPK's TRPs touched an all-time low of 3.3 per cent on March 17, with the show ranked 34th among the top 50 programmes for the week under review. The highest rating it received was of 4.3 per cent on March 16, at the 20th spot. Rekha Nigam, senior vice-president (programming and production), SET India, admitted, "Yes, this has been happening (the falling TRPs for JCPK) in the last few weeks, but we think this is due to the school and college exams." Terming it a temporary phenomenon (children and teenagers form a large part of the JCPK audience), Nigam said, "We have planned several specials to combat this. Our Baisakhi special will soon be on. We have several ideas in the pipeline (to combat JCPK's falling TRPs)." In fact, SET India chief executive Kunal Dasgupta had told journalists before the launch of JCPK on January 26 that the Sony game show was expected to be hit by the fatigue factor sooner (in about 8-10 weeks) than Star's Kaun Banega Crorepati. But the fatigue factor seems to be catching up with KBC as well, the legendary charm of Amitabh Bachchan notwithstanding. The game show has tumbled down the popularity ladder, giving way to soaps revolving around typical Indian joint families. During the week under review, KBC occupied the ninth, tenth, 11th and 12th positions, averaging only about half the audience share of the No 1 programme, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. While KBC has lost out to soap operas, Star still rules the roost, with 22 of the top 50 programmes of the week credited to it. Sony had eight programmes in the top 50 list and Zee seven. Sun TV is the surprise packet in the survey, at the second slot after Star with 13 of its programmes in the top 50 list for the week. Sun TV's highest ranked entry in the top 50 list is Chithi, at the 19th spot, ahead of JCPK with a TRP of 4.4 per cent. ALSO READ:
