Maruti March car sales flat at 37,940 unitsIndia's largest car maker Maruti Udyog Ltd said on Monday its car sales in March were flat at 37,940 units compared to 37,900 last year. Car sales in the full year through March fell 12.8 per cent to 343,442 from 393,720 in 1999/00 (April-March), figures released by the company showed. A company statement said total March sales including its Gypsy utility vehicle and exports were 40,487 units. Maruti sold 32,448 vehicles in February and 34,887 in January. Its March sales included 16,880 of its small Maruti 800 model and 6,510 Omni vans, the statement said. In the premium small car segment, it sold 6,272 units of the Zen model, 2,229 of the Wagon R and 4,265 of its recently launched Alto. It sold 1,508 Esteems and 276 Balenos in the mid-size car segment. The company also sold 1,798 Gypsys and exported 749 units. Maruti, in which the Indian government and Japan's Suzuki Motor Corp each hold 50 per cent equity, had an Indian market share of 58 per cent in the first 11 months of 2000/01 (April-March).
