General Motor's India unit March car sales up 39 per cent

The Indian unit of General Motors Corp said on Monday its sales in March jumped 39.1 per cent to 1056 cars from 759 in the same month last year.

General Motors India sold 8254 cars in the year to March, nearly three times the 3052 cars it sold in the year-ago period.

Its March sales included 739 Corsas in the lower end of the mid-size car segment and 317 Astras in the upper end of the same segment, the company said in a statement. The Corsa was launched in March 2000.

General Motors sold 701 cars in February and 558 cars in January.

General Motors India Ltd is a subsidiary of General Motors Corp and produces the German-engineered Astra and Corsa models at its plant in Gujarat.
