Bajaj Auto March scooter sales riseIndia's leading scooter manufacturer Bajaj Auto Ltd said on Sunday its geared scooter sales rose by 13.5 per cent in March from the previous month, driven largely by the popularity of its cheaper models launched earlier this year. Bajaj said in a statement, it sold more than 43,000 geared scooters in March compared with 37,859 sold in February. The company plans shortly to launch two fuel efficient scooter models, R L Ravichandran, the company's vice-president of business development and marketing, said. It said it was planning to raise the monthly average scooter sales to 45,000 in the year to March 2002, 22 per cent higher than the 2000-01 (April-March) monthly average. For the month of March, the company said it had sold more than 46,000 motorcycles, up from 28,435 sold in the previous month and higher than the previous 11 months' average of 35,071. In the motorcycle segment the firm plans to raise monthly production capacity to 70,000 in the financial year 2001-02 (April-March). There are plans to introduce two models in the motorcycle segment in the quarter ended June, Ravichandran said.
