Rockwell Automation opens its global lab in Bangalore

Fakir Chand in Bangalore

Rockwell Automation, the US-based leading supplier of controls for automated fabrication systems to global manufacturers, has chosen Bangalore to establish its global automation systems lab (ASL) with an initial investment of $2 million.

Touted to be the $7.2-billion Rockwell's only Center of Excellence in the entire Asia-Pacific region, the Bangalore Lab will facilitate adoption and deployment of industrial solutions by its Indian and Asian customers.

Rockwell Automation Asia-Pacific President Gregory Geiger told rediff.com in Bangalore on Saturday that the Indian CoE would support the parent company's automation control and information group, based in Hong Kong, as well as leverage with its NetLinx/Demo Center at Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia.

"The state-of-the-art lab will also integrate Rockwell's engineering expertise across the Asia-Pacific region, providing a resource for the global automation market," Geiger asserted.

Primarily, the ASL will enable its OEM customers to adopt Rockwell's new technologies, including its integrated architecture such as Logix processing, NetLinx communications, and ViewAnyWare visualisation.

"The rapid migration of technology from enterprise systems down to plant floor is leading to a new relationship between customers and vendors. It is in this context that the CoE will provide a seamless integration of business systems and facilitates effective management of information even while maintaining productivity and quality," Geiger affirmed.

Keeping in view Rockwell's high-growth vertical initiatives in the Asia-Pacific region, the ASL will undertake research and development in semiconductor, marine and crane, and consumer product industries.

Among its leading customers in India are: Hindustan Levers, Indal, ITC, Nestle, Reliance, Telco, Bajaj Auto, and a host of leading manufacturing and processing industries, including oil and gas, petrochemicals, textiles, automotive, pharmaceuticals, food and beverages, and mining and metals.

According to Debashish Ghosh of Allen Bradley India Ltd, Rockwell's brand company in the sub-continent, the Indian subsidiary of the Milwaukee-headquartered company has been involved in enabling a range of Indian OEMs to deploy its integrated control and management systems for enhancing productivity and compete globally.
