Indian Airlines has no plans to buy used planes: Yadav

Indian Airlines has no plans to acquire any second-hand aircraft from abroad, Civil Aviation Minister Sharad Yadav informed the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday.

In a written reply, Yadav said the Indian Airlines, however, was considering a proposal to acquire the three A-300 B4 aircraft which have been offered for sale by Air-India.

Airport: Yadav said that the Maharashtra government has submitted a revised proposal from City and Industrial Development Corporation for construction of the second International airport at Bombay.

Air-India: The national carrier Maharaja is likely to suffer a projected loss of Rs 1.50 billion during the current financial year following an increase in fuel prices, he said.

To another question, he said the government has decided

to bring down its shareholding in Air-India to 40 per cent.

The additional traffic rights which would be available to Air-India after reviewing its services with 16 countries, will also be available to it after its divestment, he said.

Aircraft: He said as an interim measure, Air-India has already signed agreement with Singapore Airlines for dry lease of two A310-300 Aircraft to utilise its air traffic rights. It was also likely to dry lease more aircraft for which technical discussions were in progress.
