India's October car sales fall 21%

Indian passenger car sales fell by 1.6 per cent in April-October 2000 to 342,922 units, down from 348,614 units in the same period of last year, the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers said on Tuesday.

SIAM said in a statement that sales of cars in October alone fell by 21 per cent to 38,028 units from 48,200 in October 1999.

Sales of commercial vehicles were 77,890 units in

April-October, down from 85,690 in the same period of 1999-00. Commercial vehicle sales in October alone were 10,994 units against 14,436 a year earlier.
