MUL to take up labour unrest issue with Suzuki

Maruti Udyog Employees Union said that the company management was likely to discuss the ongoing agitation by employees with its 50:50 joint venture partner Suzuki of Japan and hoped for an early settlement.

"Heavy Industry secretary Ravindra Gupta informed us that he was awaiting the management's response to the two-month old crisis and added that the MUL management has asked for some time to apprise Suzuki and was waiting for its views in the matter," MUEU general secretary Mathew Abraham said.

When contacted, MUL spokesperson, however, declined to comment on the issue.

MUEU is insisting on its demand that the management withdraw the condition that the workers give an undertaking that they would not go on strike in future for permission to enter the factory premises and reinstate its 94 "victimised employees".

The employees union is still holding a dharna in front of the heavy industry ministry with its four members on a 'fast-unto-death'.

Talks between the management and union to arrive at a solution over the government's four-point package failed on December 14, when the union rejected it and the management continued to insist on the stipulations.
