Videocon inaugurates CTV manufacturing plant

Videocon International Limited has inaugurated its fully automated colour television manufacturing plant in Aurangabad.

The plant, built with an investment of Rs 200 crore, has an installed capacity of about 10,000 CTVs a day. It was formally inaugurated by Sumitada Hatakeyama, vice-president, corporate affairs (Asia Oceania region), Toshiba Corporation, on Sunday.

The facility will also manufacture Internet television sets, VIL chairman Venugopal Dhoot said. The integrated plant will also manufacture television sets not only for Videocon, but also manufacture on a much larger scale Toshiba colour television sets for the Indian and foreign markets.

Vil, which had an agreement for technical co-operation with Toshiba, has now secured its approval for the integrated plant. Besides, Toshiba's technical assistance, VIL has entered into an MOU with the American company, Teley Cruz, for the manufacture of Internet television sets. The sets will have browsing and e-mail facility.

Dhoot claimed Videocon has a 19 per cent market share in the colour telivision market.
