Prices swing up, down, up; Nifty 877.45

Share prices opened on a buoyant note, declined towards the mid-session and finished higher compared to previous close on the National Stock Exchange here today.

S&P CNX Nifty closed higher by 5.55 points to 877.45 points as against the previous close of 871.90 points.

Nifty Junior declined by 5.95 points to 1517.65 points from 1523.60 points.

S&P CNX Defty rose by 4.10 points to 715.10 points over the previous close of 711.00 points.

S&P CNX 500 closed at 601.35 points against Tuesday's close of 600.11 points and CNX Midcap 200 index settled at 533.06 points over the last trading day's close of 533.27 points.

The total traded value was Rs 14.43 billion involving 56.15 million shares in 190,196 trades. The debentures traded value was Rs 566,000. Out of total securities 618 were advances, 303 declines and 78 remains unchanged. About 119 securities have hit their price bands.

The foreign institutional investors' turnover (provisional) declined by Rs 119.27 million as they sold Rs 280.31 million and bought Rs 161.04 million of shares. Similarly, financial institutions/mutual funds net value also came down by Rs 15.96 million; they sold shares worth Rs 120.21 million and bought shares worth Rs 104.25 million of shares.
