Friendship Day is around the corner and it is as good a time as any other to reassess your friendships. So here are some classic signs that you should let go of your friend.
Is your friend genuine or deadweight?
Is s/he helping you excel or is pulling you down, keeping you from achieving your full potential?
Here are some signs that your friend is not a friend to begin with.
1. They are almost always negative
Everyone has bad days.
And some people have it more than the others.
But then there are others whose life is a series of crises and troubles.
If its not their boyfriend/girlfriend, it is their colleagues or their meagre salary (which they somehow have enough to blow on everything they want but don't necessarily need and then are broke at the end of every month.)
These folks are always reminding you how miserable their life is... which they probably deserve because they call it upon themselves.

2. They constantly borrow money from you (and don't return it)

There are months when we are scrounging the bottom of the barrel.
And there are months we have done it and are begging from our parents and friends.
But surely we aren't broke every single month of the year!
Whatever anyone tells you, money is important.
So if someone is constantly borrowing money from you and not returning it (or doing so after a lot of following up), chances are they are with you for one thing and one thing only.
If you don't believe us, make up an 'emergency' and ask them for some money.
Watch what they do.

3. They are never there when you need them

You are their 4am friend, giving up on your sleep and giving them a patient ear.
When they are in the tiniest trouble, you are the first person they call (and you are the first person who shows up).
But when it's your turn to seek help, they are never there… because there's always some meeting, some interview, some assignment they have been called for and therefore cannot be there for you.

4. They become different people before others

Do they become a whole new person when they are in a group?
Do you suddenly find at the receiving end of a cold shoulder from them?
Do they jokingly pick on you a little too often when with others?
A true friend should be the same person in private and public.
If you find them changing drastically, it is perhaps time you bring it to their notice.
And if it persists, consider backing off!

5. They are not interested in you

So you've broken your heart or one of your parents is having a health scare or you are feeling miserable about yourself.
You just need someone to talk to but you discover that rather than giving you a patient ear they are more interested in talking about themselves!
If you find yourself lonely when you're with them, there is a good possibility that they are not the friends you hoped they would be.

6. Not a lot of people have a high opinion of them

One or two people having a poor opinion of someone can be understood -- you cannot leave great impression on everyone who passes your way.
But when it's the third or the fourth person who shares the same opinion of your 'friend', you need to be alarmed.
Chances are you are yet to see that side of them. So tread carefully, very, very carefully.
