Lakme FW: Tahiliani weaves his magic at Grand Finale

The spring/summer 2010 edition of Lakme Fashion Week ended on a high (though much delayed) note, as veteran designer Tarun Tahiliani's grand finale boasted a collection drenched in rich elegance.

With no big-name celebs walking the ramp, Tarun was forced to rely entirely on the strength of his garments. And he did not disappoint.

The collection -- called Flashback to Glamour -- was inspired by an Indian yogini-meets-apsarette kind of concept, the designs consisted of Grecian togas and tunics, saris, boleros and kurtas, set off by complex colours, applique work, Swarovski crystal components and rich jewellery.

Let's take a look.

We start things off with this charcoal sari draped in silk georgette, worn with a body suit.

Pretty in plum

A plum corset transforms into a tiered draped gown. Velvet abound! A lovely gothic look.

Berry beautiful

Nicole Faria wears this berry silk jersey with velvet and tulle choli.

Golden Grecian Goddess

This alluring creation harks back to a bygone era of Athenian beauty and style. Tahiliani pays his tribute to molten gold, one of the Lakme fall colours.

Military men

A tailored black crepewool bandgala with antique buttons and stretch Jodhpur pants. This look is very Che Guevara.

Tailored wool jacket and shiny jodhpurs!

Red and brick: a regal look

Tahiliani returned to this look often. Here a gauze ruffle shirt worn with a tweed jacket and sequined brick pants.

Getting into indigo

Indigo tribal and silk thread bolero worn over a tank top and silk jersey wrap pants. One of the collection's more interesting garments.

Indian formal wear done right

Carrot velvet choli worn with a pumpkin woven and embroidered sari. Talk about getting your fruits and veggies!

Emphasis on embroidery

Silk velvet decollete blouse in velvet worn with a net and stud sari and brocade belt. Tahiliani's embroidery was understated yet effective, if never extraordinary.

Beautiful in blue

When Tahiliani chased elegance, he often succeeded. Here, the transparent and embroidered pallu sets off the entire garment.

Sari with a pave blouse

Shruti Agarwal, often seen in Kingfisher's annual calendar, looked stunning in this sari with a pave blouse. Check out that exquisite patterning!

Tarun's tunics

Tahiliani has developed a reputation as one of India's finest ethnicwear designers. Tonight he showed hints of his reputation, like with this tunic worn with churidar and stole.

Fit for a queen

Brazilian beauty Marianna Dias wears a shaded sherwani coat in camel and rose with a grown on neck and narrow capris.

Take a bow, Tahiliani

To conclude the show, the master himself was joined on the ramp by the four faces of Lakme: Lisa, Indrani, Amrit and Vipasha.

Visible here is Vipasha Agrawal, wearing stunning lemon and gold lace sari.

And so ended Lakme Fashion Week in Mumbai.
