Take a look at the who's who and what they wore to New York's biggest fashion gala of the year!
The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York held a gala ball on May 2 this year, paying homage to late British designer Alexander McQueen with an exhibition of his creations.
The annual soiree, which sees the cream of the entertainment and fashion world mingle in decadent designerwear, was rechristened the 'Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty' Costume Institute Gala and welcomed celebrities from Madonna to Miranda Kerr and Serena Williams.
But not everyone was a hit on the red carpet -- take a look and let us know what YOU think of these styles by using the poll at the bottom of each page!
All tied up
Freida Pinto seems to take 'black tie' way too seriously. She turned up at the Met Gala in this white satin number but unfortunately, we don't think the dress does a thing for her -- it just looks wierd. What do you think?
Fishtail finesse
Image: BeyoncePhotographs: Larry Busacca/Getty Images
The inimitable Beyonce opted for this fishtail gown with stunning gold embroidery, but that bodice looks like she's going to burst out of it any second. And the outfit was so hard to move about in that she needed help walking!
Lady in red
Image: Gisele BundchenPhotographs: Stephen Lovekin/Getty Images
Supermodel stunner Gisele Bundchen opted for a strapless red classic with a perma-pleated train. Stunning, but was it enough to fend off the competition from fellow supermodels and other famous femme fatales?
Flowery statement
Image: Jennifer LopezPhotographs: Larry Busacca/Getty Images
Showing off her famous curves and come-hither look in this red cut-away complete with flowery shrug was Jennifer Lopez. In bloom or a flowery failing? You decide!
Fringe overkill
Image: Naomi CampbellPhotographs: Larry Busacca/Getty Images
Naomi Campbell paid homage to McQueen by wearing one of his creations, but it was a disaster; the excessive fringes came off looking like shreds that failed to complement her superb figure. Guess some outfits are strictly for the catwalk after all!
Royal dressmaker
Image: Sarah BurtonPhotographs: Stephen Lovekin/Getty Images
Maybe Naomi should have consulted with McQueen's protege and current head designer Sarah Burton, who showed up in one of her own designs, a softly flowing white empire-waisted gown with delicate embellishments. The world has raised a toast to her talent after the breathtaking bridal she designed for Kate Middleton's royal wedding.
Star-spangled blue belle
Image: MadonnaPhotographs: Stephen Lovekin/Getty Images
Madonna is hardly known for her good taste, but she seemed to emerge a winner at the ball in a pretty blue ensemble that showed off her age-defying bod and a train of spangled stars.
In the pink
Image: Brooklyn DeckerPhotographs: Larry Busacca/Getty Images
We're beginning to think that Brooklyn Decker could make even a potato sack look sexy. We're not crazy about this bubblegum gown, but her supermodel figure, the thigh-high slit and that radiant face manage to ace it nevertheless.
Cutting a rosy picture
Image: Salma HayekPhotographs: Larry Busacca/Getty Images
When your hubby owns a veritable empire of high-end labels, the sky's the limit! And voluptuous beauty Salma Hayek made the right choice with this gold, rose-embellished chiffon by Sarah Burton for McQueen.
Over the top?
Image: FergiePhotographs: Larry Busacca/Getty Images
Black Eyed Peas singer Fergie showed up in this textured floral by Marchesa. She was probably hoping to make a dramatic impression, but that dress looks too busy even for a wedding -- her own!
Ballerina style
Image: Miranda KerrPhotographs: Larry Busacca/Getty Images
New mommy Miranda Kerr had an unbelievable post-baby glow and not a trace of post-baby weight! She looked quite the ballerina in this wispy-edged, flouncing cocktail.
Keep it classic
Image: Stella McCartneyPhotographs: Stephen Lovekin/Getty Images
Designer Stella McCartney also gave birth to her fourth child in November and showed no trace of it in one of her own creations -- a lovely black strapless contour number.
Bold and beautiful
Image: RihannaPhotographs: Larry Busacca/Getty Images
Stella also had pop princess Rihanna kitted out in one of her designs -- a racy lace dress with a daring slit all the way up one side, held together with sheer mesh.
Slinky stunner
Image: Rosie Huntington-WhiteleyPhotographs: Larry Busacca/Getty Images
Victoria's Secret bombshell Rosie Huntington-Whiteley ensured all eyes were on her in this slit-up-to-there (and down-to-there!) gown by Burberry.
Black seduction
Image: Penelope CruzPhotographs: Larry Busacca/Getty Images
Actress Penelope Cruz dazzled in an Oscar de la Renta layered ensemble that flattered her post-pregnancy figure.
Fuss and feathers
Image: Serena WilliamsPhotographs: Stephen Lovekin/Getty Images
Tennis ace Serena Williams also opted for Oscar de la Renta, but fell far short of the mark with feathery overkill. And just a note -- hair fascinators are not for everyone!
Chic sheath
Image: Lily AldridgePhotographs: Larry Busacca/Getty Images
Simple and chic, model Lily Aldridge's gold sheath gown was ideal for the Met Gala, showing off her slimline bod and backless detail.
Earthy tones
Image: Christina HendricksPhotographs: Stephen Lovekin/Getty Images
Mad Men star Christina Hendricks opted for a strapless, copper-black Carolina Herrera gown that we're rather on the fence about -- from some angles it was most flattering and from others it wasn't!
Intricate elegance
Image: Bar RefaeliPhotographs: Larry Busacca/Getty Images
Now that's what you call exquisite embroidery! Model Bar Refaeli floored us with this electric ensemble.
Standing tall and sexy
Image: Gwyneth PaltrowPhotographs: Larry Busacca/Getty Images
Some fashion critics grumble that Gwyneth Paltrow has got a lot to learn about style. Our advice to them -- shut up! The blonde babe is a vision in this pale gold outfit.
Shield your eyes!
Image: ImanPhotographs: Stephen Lovekin/Getty Images
At 55, ex-supermodel Iman still boasts enviable looks. But there are some things that not even an ex-supermodel can carry off, and one of them is this eye-searing sequinned jumpsuit horror by (we're shocked!) Stella McCartney.
A tad too tame
Image: Sarah Jessica ParkerPhotographs: Stephen Lovekin/Getty Images
Now here's a fashion icon who takes risks and manages to pull them off most of the time. So we were surprised when Sarah Jessica Parker showed up in this tame (read boring) high-necked sheath gown.
Whirling and twirling
Image: Shalom HarlowPhotographs: Stephen Lovekin/Getty Images
Model Shalom Harlow made quite an impression in this design by Marchesa, with black twirls and whirls on a nude, sheer background.
Racy lace
Image: Christina RicciPhotographs: Stephen Lovekin/Getty Images
Petite Christina Ricci created a lot of drama with her racy lace gown -- you can love it or hate it, you can't ignore it!
Dark decadence
Image: Natalia VodianovaPhotographs: Larry Busacca/Getty Images
Seen here on the arm of designer Valentino Garavani, fresh-faced Natalia Vodianova looked lovely in this fringed black affair.
Ladylike feminity
Image: Eva MendesPhotographs: Stephen Lovekin/Getty Images
This blue pleated design was a far cry from Eva Mendes' usually dare-to-bare wardrobe, but it was a welcome change and a new look for her. Like it?
Looker in leggings
Image: Karolina KurkovaPhotographs: Larry Busacca/Getty Images
Only a model like Karolina Kurkova could make leggings work on the red carpet and she did, in this lace-lined Jean Paul Gaultier reverie.
Passion for pale
Image: Renee ZellwegerPhotographs: Larry Busacca and (right) Stephen Lovekin, both Getty Images
It was pretty enough, but Renee Zellweger's pale gold Carolina Herrera gown was nothing to write home about. The only saving grace was that stunning back, which showed off the actress' toned figure.
Way too waifish
Image: Chanel ImanPhotographs: Larry Busacca/Getty Images
Not only does model Chanel Iman look shockingly thin in this sheer lace dress, it's also way too understated for the Met Gala. It's a thumbs down from us!
Bright but boring
Image: Doutzen KroesPhotographs: Stephen Lovekin/Getty Images
Like her fellow Victoria's Secret Angel Miranda, Doutzen Kroes also gave birth back in January and is back to her fabulous self, but unlike Miranda, she chose a very frumpy dress for the ball. Despite the ravishing red hue, it's strictly commonplace. And Doutzen is a supermodel, so imagine what us ordinary mortals would look like in it!
