Designer duo Shyamal and Bhumika brought the romance of the Big Fat Indian Wedding to the runway with their latest line -- The Royal Procession -- on the last day of the Lakme Fashion Week.
Dia Mirza dazzled the ramp in a red zardosi-covered lehenga, a tiny velvet choli and a shimmering dupatta.

Lamps on the stage gradually lit up and created the Rajput and Mughal eras as the models emerged on to the ramp.

The line sought inspiration from the splendour of Maharajas as well as the 16th century couture with itself was a seeing an interesting blend of the Mughal and Rajput sensibilities at the time.

Thus the collection offered an interesting mix of silhouettes that saw a fascinating array of contemporary colours blending with traditional Indian embroidery and styling.

Silhouettes for women included traditional kalidaars, jama-inspired cholis, overlapping jackets, fitted bias churidars, lehenga saris, saris, swirling ornate panelled lehengas, collared blouses, ijaar pants, shrugs and kotis.
Menswear had bundgalas, sherwanis, churidars, bundies and jackets along with colourful turbans.

Shyamal and Bhumika worked with raw silk, crepe, velvet, hand woven silk brocade, Matka silk and georgette to produce some rather interesting outfits such as this one.

The colour palette ranged from scarlet, berry, forest green, beige and gold to Moroccan blue, aloe and black.

The line featured some rather interesting detailing and embroidery as seen in these stunning outfits pictured above.

Stunning velvet cholis with semi-precious stones and flared lehngas also featured among the highlights of the collection.

Interestingly the jewellery was restricted only to an elaborate ‘kaan phool’ and almost nothing else!

The line featured intricate Meenakari that harked back upon the beauty of ancient carvings, zari, zardosi and silk cutwork with metallic and velvet fabrics.

Luntkans at the end of dupattas and backs of cholis added a rather interesting touch to the garments. Seen here is model Sanea Sheikh in a sunflower gold sari.

The line was true to its name and was indeed a royal procession featuring some of the most intricate embroidery to be seen in the last five days.
