Debarun Mukerjee's collection were resplendent of a bygone era

Sometimes it's the music that sets the tone for the rest of the event and half establishes its purpose.

When the signature tune of All India Radio was played at Debarun Mukerjee's show, four kurta-clad male models walking the ramp holding lanterns made for a great visual entry.

Mukherjee used popular Bollywood hits of the 50s and 60s to take the audience on a retro trip, with his collection 'Bygone' and successfully wove a magical story with each of his designs -- flowy and intricate.

White dominated the designs that reflected simplicity and purity.

The creations emerged gracefully in hues of sky, mountain brown, lake blue, pink, tangerine, yellow and forest green.

The designer kept it subtle with beautiful embellishments of chanderi, dupion silk, delicate crushed mulmul and Indian cottons that shone ever more under the arc lights.

The men's wear line had a class of its own -- cotton silk creations never looked better than this before.

The line had kaftans with interesting churi sleeves, kurtas, flared trousers teamed with cropped tops, 'A' line skirts and blouses, form fitting suits, saris and fish tail sari ghagras.

Showstopper Shahana Goswami wore a silk mulmul crushed sari.

For lovers of retro style the 'Bygone' collection by Debarun Mukerjee will revive memories and styles of the past.
