Google celebrates Mark Twain's 176th birthday with a doodle

The search engine pays tribute to America's greatest humourist on his 176th birthday.

Remember The Adventures of Tom Sawyer? And it's author Mark Twain?

Well, Google is honouring the American playwright and humourist Mark Twain on his 176th birthday with a doodle of the author's popular novel The Adventures of Tom Sawyer published in 1876.

The Google doodle today shows one of the interesting event of the novel where the protagonist Tom sawyer and his dear friend Ben whitewash a fence as part of punishment by Aunt Polly.

The aunt's angry because Tom soils his clothes after a fight with school friend.

Once readers to an illustration that shows Tom and Ben painting Google on the same fence as portrayed in The Adventures of Tom Sawyer.

Fourth and fifth alphabet from Google, namely 'g' and 'e', are however missing from the doodle indicating perhaps the paint work is on and will be completed soon.

Lauded as the 'greatest American humourist' Mark Twain was born in Florida, Missouri on November 30, 1835, interestingly, also the day of visit of Halley's Comet.

After the huge success of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer Mark Twain went on to write a sequel to it: Adventures of Huckleberry Finn nine years later in 1885.

As in his birth Halley's Comet also shadowed Mark Twain's death. Mark Twain died of a heart attack on April 21, 1910, a day after the comet came closest to the earth. In fact, Mark Twain himself had predicted that as he 'came along with it', he would 'go out with it'.
