India Today has released the results of its annual of the best Indian colleges 2013. In the second part of a series, we bring you the top 10 commerce colleges, as per their findings.
Part 1: India’s best science colleges 2013
One of the leading magazines in the country, India Today has prepared a list of the best colleges in India for this year.
Using data from the Internet, various published reports and the Association of Indian Universities Handbook, the publication partnered with global marketing and advertising research company Nielsen to draw up a list of over 1,500 colleges across 11 distinct disciplines.
Faculties from leading institutes across the country rated all but their own colleges and universities on the basis of reputation, quality of academic input, student care, infrastructure and job prospects; those that figured high up in the rankings also had to submit factual data to figure in the list.

10. Madras Christian College, Chennai

Chennai’s Madras Christian College has slipped down two places from its last year’s ranking and is positioned at number 10.
Founded in 1837, the MCC is one of the oldest colleges in the country that offers courses in science, commerce and humanities.
An autonomous institute, it admits over 6,500 students across its various undergraduate and post-graduate programmes.
The country’s former president S Radhakrishnan and PepsiCo chairperson Indra Nooyi have graduated from this college.
9. Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics, Mumbai

At number nine is Shri Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics from Mumbai.
Established in 1964, it is popularly known as NM College and offers degree courses in commerce, management studies, accounting and finance at the undergraduate level.
It also offers two-year vocational programmes in marketing and sales, travel and tourism for students who have cleared Class 10.
Actors Aamir Khan, Juhi Chawla, Rani Mukherjee and producer Ekta Kapoor have pursued their graduation from NM College.
8. Ramjas College, Delhi

At number eight, Ramjas College holds a significant place in the top 10 list of commerce colleges this year; in fact it also features among the best Indian science colleges for 2013.
One of the premier colleges in the city, the college was started in 1917 and currently offers courses in liberal arts, sciences and commerce both at the undergraduate and post graduate level.
Delhi’s first chief minister Brahm Prakash Chaudhary and actor Shekhar Suman are Ramjas alumni.
7. Hindu College, Delhi

Yet another college from Delhi -- the Hindu College -- has inched up two places from 2012 rankings to feature in the top 10 list of commerce colleges in the country.
Founded in 1899, this institution is known to have produced eminent alumni across domains over the last few decades.
Some of the famous alumni who have graduated from this college are economist Ila Patnaik, TV producer Sidharth Basu and CEO Global Fund for Women Kavita Ramdas.
6. St Xavier's College, Mumbai

Although popularly known for its science and humanities programmes, St Xavier’s College, Mumbai also finds a place among top ranked commerce colleges in the country.
Established in 1869, it has a 2.94 acre campus and offers courses in science, commerce and arts at the undergraduate and post graduate level.
Noted author Abdul Qavi Desnavi, Teach for India chairperson Anu Aga and marketing theorist Anand Kurian have all pursued degrees from this college.
5. Christ University, Bangalore

Bangalore’s Christ University comes in next at number five.
Established on July 15, 1969, the university is also recognised by the University Grants Commission of India.
It annually enrolls over 12,000 students across disciplines like law, business administration, commerce, management, humanities, sciences, and social sciences.
Karnataka MLA Krisha Byre Gowda and Kerala MP Francis George are some of the many Christ University alumni.
4. Lady Shri Ram College for Women, New Delhi

In fourth place is Lady Shri Ram College for Women, New Delhi.
A constituent college of the University of Delhi, it was established in the year 1956.
It currently offers 16 programmes at the undergraduate and 10 programmes at the postgraduate level.
It currently caters to over 2,000 students annually.
Nobel Peace Prize-winning Burmese leader Aung San Suu Kyi and CEO of HSBC Bank Naina Lal Kidwai have graduated from this Delhi college.
3. St Xavier's College, Kolkata

St Xavier’s College from the City of Joy makes it to the top three list.
It was ranked as the second best college for commerce last year.
The institute founded in the year 1860 acquired autonomy in 2006.
Recognised as one of the best colleges in the city, its alumni include billionaire and CEO of ArcelorMittal Lakshmi Mittal and chairman of RPG Enterprises Harsh Goenka, among others.
2. Loyola College, Chennai

The second best college to study commerce in India, according to India Today is Loyola College.
Founded in the year 1925, this Chennai college offers a wide range of courses in pure and social sciences, arts and commerce and follows a credit based semester pattern.
Among its notable alumni include management guru CK Prahalad, chairman of the Sun TV Network Kalanithi Maran, and owner and chairman of IPL cricket team Chennai Super Kings N Srinivasan.
1. Shri Ram College of Commerce, Delhi

Just like every year, this year, too Shri Ram College of Commerce emerges as the top college for commerce in India.
According to India Today, SRCC has been consistently ranked at number one since 2004 through 2013 -- except in 2010 when it lost its first place to St Xavier’s College, Kolkata.
Established in 1926, it offers programmes in commerce and economics at the undergraduate and post graduate level.
Some of the well-known personalities who’ve graduated from this institute include MP Arun Jaitley, CEO of YES Bank Rana Kapoor and hotelier Lalit Suri.
