If you have a job you hate, the first thing you need to do is find out why and whether you are ready to move on.

Labour, employee, specialist, team leader, manager… if we start writing down the levels of corporate ladder, the list would be a long one indeed!

One thing that holds all the 'salaried' category is 'fear' of lack of financial freedom.

Each of us measure performance and relative success differently and that is what defines us and our happiness at work.

However, at some point in time, all of us discuss people who had a rough time at work and couldn't cope up the high tides of 'great expectations of a boss'.

That is the time questions like these trigger the human mind:

'Why should I work?'

'Why should I work so hard?'

'Why such humiliation?'

'Who is s/he?'

'Can s/he achieve this?'

The unrest continues…

So what would make you think differently and change your mind to continue at work. What will make your tenure more interesting, exciting and rewarding?

You must ask questions. Find out what's holding you back in your current job.

1. Have you tried enough?

If you are comfortable in just doing what you are asked to do, then you are just another employee.

It is always easy to criticise an initiative taken by somebody rather than being proactive and executing it yourself!

It is not easy for every one to say this to him/herself -- come what may I will finish this today.

Did you gauge your attempts?

Did you try failing?

Did you try challenging yourself, learning new things as you fall and rise as fast as possible?

Every time you fail, you learn.

The more you fall, the more you get seasoned for tougher times.

The more skills you hone, the better prepared you will be to take up the harder and tougher challenges.

2. Are you conscious about your failure?

If you continue to be conscious about your failure, you can never experience and cherish victory.

It will also stop you from trying out something new.

3. Are you worried about what people think about you?

Do you believe that being different will keep you in the limelight?

Everybody wants to be there; the question is: What will be your style?

If judging people is your way, remember then, people would judge you too, because it applies to them as well.

What are the steps you will take to be counted and looked upon as a 'professional' than just another victim of office gossip?

4. Have you made a change today?

Image: Be the catalyst for change.

All of us work but how many of us add value?

Start your day by asking: Have I made a change today?

It's a catalyst and drives every professional to do better.

You may think that you are the 'best of the best'. But remember that, somebody out there will be better than you.

The hunger to bring a positive change is what drives you towards an exciting tomorrow.

5. Do you update yourself?

Image: Learn new skills, update your knowledge.

What makes you better than others in the group is your domain knowledge and expertise.

The world is changing fast.

During this phase, you must be able to un-learn, learn and un-learn continuously.

The room for new things in your memory has to be prepared by you.

The more knowledge you gather, the better you will deliver.

Think fresh and deliver more.

6. Have you killed the child in you?

Image: Curiosity will quench your appetite for learning.

If you want to grow in your career, you must grow your appetite to learn, know and ask questions.

And this is only possible if you keep the child within you alive.

Children ask you the simplest, toughest, stupidest yet interesting questions.

The best part of the activity is it makes you think -- and that keeps you going.

Asking questions to yourself, to your tasks, to your boss, to your peers is good.

It keeps you and them on their toes!

7. Can you face it head on?

Image: If you want to be a leader you will have to be more responsible and accountable for your actions.

Every individual must have the courage to face the consequences of their actions and also be bold to accept criticism.

It is a sign of leadership and accountability.

It is about how you present yourself transparently; it is like saying 'I have nothing to hide'.

People will respect you more because they know who you really are.

Sometimes instead of changing the job -- which would seem like the most appropriate thing to do -- it would be better if you could try and change the way you look at your job
