The brand new Wego is all set to take on the Honda Activa-i and the recently launched Suzuki Let's, says Faisal Ali Khan of MotorBeam.com. The question is, will it be able to?
TVS has just launched the 2014 Wego, which is an update to their already popular scooter.
The TVS Wego was launched in 2009 and although a very good scooter, it has come under heavy competition from Honda's Activa-i and Suzuki's Let's.
TVS showcased the updated Wego at the 2014 Auto Expo and has put it on sale now.

TVS has taken many parts from the Jupiter, a scooter which has boosted their sales in the 110cc two-wheeler space.
The TVS Wego gets a slew of changes, though.
The scooter now gets black alloy wheels and two new dual-tone colours have been added to improve the appearance of the Wego.

The TVS Wego shares its engine with the TVS Jupiter, the 110cc CVT-i motor produces 8 PS of power and 8 Nm of torque but most importantly, the claimed mileage is 62 km/l.
The engine gets new pistons which results in reduced friction, thereby improving performance and reliability of the powerplant.
The compression ratio has been increased and the ignition has been remapped to improve the cold starting performance of the Wego.

Rest of the TVS Wego remains the same. It gets body balance technology which has been praised a lot by users.
The scooter continues to get an external fuel filler which boosts the convenience of refilling petrol while the rear gets LED tail lights. The front suspension is a telescopic unit while the rear is a unit swing with spring loaded hydraulic dampers.

The TVS Wego comes with front and rear drum brakes, 130 mm in size but an option of a 220 front disc is also offered.
Even though TVS has updated the Wego by improving it on several fronts, the South based manufacturer hasn't hiked the prices of the scooter.
The base drum equipped variant is priced at Rs 48,857 while the top-end variant with a front disc brake is priced at Rs 49,580; all prices are ex-showroom, Mumbai.
