What's your New Year Resolution

It's that time of the year again when you draw up a list of the things you intend to accomplish in the forthcoming weeks/ months.

Resolutions! Oh, how we love the sound of promise and hope in that word.

So what if you stick to some and quit some mid-way?

The New Year is a time to set a goal for the coming months.

We'd like to know what your resolution is for 2016.

We have drawn up a list of the most popular resolutions people make.

Take the poll below and tell us which one tops your list.

Quit smoking

The cigarette packet, the movie halls, the various sign boards you pass by each day… have all been silently trying to tell you to kick the butt because it's injurious to health.

You know that too, don't you?

That tobacco consumption leads to bronchitis, cancer and even reduces your life span. Aren't these reasons good enough for you to quit smoking this year?

Choose a healthier lifestyle

All those excuses you gave for not sticking to a diet plan, ignoring your health and falling sick need to rest.

It's time you put health first and opted for a healthier and balanced lifestyle this year.

Lose weight

This one, needless to say, tops the list for most people. That tiny bulge you ignored is now a mass of flesh that is raring to go and is as adamant as you are.

Ever heard of BMI --- Body Mass Index? Perhaps, you crossed the mark long ago and it's time you did something about it.

This New Year, get back into shape. Hit the gym, take to the road, take to a new sport but just don't let your body get the better of you.

Splurge less

When you go back home today, take a good look at your overflowing wardrobe and don't forget to match it with your current bank balance.

Did you really need to buy that expensive gown for a friend's bachelor party or splurge on that mean leather jacket you wore only once?

If you had the choice, would you think twice before adding an item to your shopping cart this year? Think about it.

Save more

It's believed that a penny saved is a penny earned.

Maybe it's time you saved a part of your income and invested in the future.

Take charge of your financial statements and promise yourself to make some wise decisions this year.

You'll thank yourself later.

Find a better job

Hate going to work every Monday?

Tired of your boss' ways and promises of a promotion?

Do yourself a favour and find a better job that values your true potential.

Let this be top agenda in 2016 and find a way to work towards it.

Travel to a new place

There are two ways you can learn something new -- one is to read a good book and two, is to travel.

This year, how about packing your bags and travelling to a place you've never been before?

You'll meet different people, experience something you've never imagined before and perhaps learn a lesson or two about life and come back a different person.

Do something adventurous

We all have an inner fear we keep locked in a safe corner of our hearts and minds.

Perhaps it's the fear of heights, water, criticism or the fear of unknown.

This year, will you resolve to fight at least one fear and come out victorious?

De-stress

Stress is an emotion that is now overshadowing the simpler joys of life.

This year, vow yourself to unclog from any pressure cooker situation.

Tell yourself you'll not let stress get the better of you. Can you try that?

Learn a new skill

A skill you've learned is never really wasted, unless you fail to implement it at the right time.

This year, learn a new language, join a hobby class or sign up for a course online -- there are countless possibilities and unlimited opportunities waiting to happen.

Spend more time with family

Last year, maybe you forgot to wish your parents on their anniversary because you had a gruelling day at work. Or you could not take your kids on the vacation you promised because you had to work on a new project.

This year, will you take time off to spend with your family and loved ones?

None of the above

Or maybe it's just another year for you. So what's new about 2016, you may ask?

Are you among those who is planning to ditch the whole resolution thing altogether?

Is your New Year resolution not on this list?

What have you resolved for 2016?
