Our story about Duster, a German Shepherd, reminded Rediff reader Ajay Sharma about his dog Bruno.
- Must See: Adorable pet pics by our Rediff readers
I live in a village and my house is surrounded by a jungle. Monkeys dominate the area.
So we brought a German Shepherd pup from Ludhiana and named him Bruno.
I don't have his picture, but he looked the same as Duster when he was 20 days old.
He was so dynamic that his presence was sufficient to keep monkeys away from entering our house.
He is no more now. We didn't bring in any dog after he left us.
He was not afraid of anyone, maybe not even me, but he regarded and obeyed my every command.
I admit that I used to scold him a lot. I used to feel that he was a troublesome dog. He always reacted by lowering his ears.
One day early morning, I saw him in a pool of blood, his chest and front legs were red. I imagined that he must have eaten some animal.
My immediate response was, 'Bruno what did you do?' He was at a distance and on hearing my voice, he stood still and lowered his ears.
I then realised that he was wounded and had broken his lower jaws.
That was the the biggest realisation I felt about my love for Bruno. I miserably started weeping and said, 'Bruno yeh kya kar diya tune (what did you do)?'
We wanted to save this precious member of our family. Ultimately, we shifted him to a super-speciality dogs' hospital at Ludhiana.
He was operated and he cooperated with the entire procedure from getting an X-ray taken and to the surgery.
But ultimately we lost our best family member. Now we are not in a position to bring in any dog in his place. We really miss him a lot. Love you Bruno.
