In the year 1996.
I had come to live in the city of lakes, Bhopal from Hoshangabad, Madhya Pradesh with my family.
On my first day to school in the new city, I was waiting for the school bus to arrive.
The bus arrived.
As I was boarding it, a pair of beautiful brown eyes caught my eye.
I secretly prayed that we share the same class.
As soon as we got off the bus, I walked towards my new school.
After asking for directions to my classroom, I finally found it.
And then, I saw the girl from the bus appear from behind.
I was surprised how the Almighty granted my wish so quickly.
Perhaps, Sheereen and I were destined to be classmates.
She was eleven years old and I was 12 then.
She was the first girl I befriended in life. And I was the first boy in her life to whom she spoke her heart out.
We found solace in each other's company.
I used to share all my experiences with her, from small things happening in my life to deep dark secrets.
She too confided in me and spoke about the ups and downs in her life.
And she never hesitated in seeking my quirky advice.
By God's grace, our families too didn't shy away in accepting our unconditional bond.
We were lucky to be together from childhood to becoming professionals.
We got married in the year 2012.
Today when I look back at our 20 years of relationship, I feel life couldn't have been more beautiful.
We don't wait for occasions to display our affection.
In fact, I love her more every day.
I am still her best friend.
She tells me every day how she fell in love with her childhood sweetheart who she'd seen boarding the bus while he kept looking at her.
On February 14, 2016 -- which was also my birthday -- we celebrated 20 years of companionship.
