UPSC civil services exam to be held on August 24

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) preliminary examination is scheduled to be held on August 24.

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducts the Civil Services Preliminary Examination annually for recruitment across different services, including Indian Administrative Services, Indian Police Services and Indian Revenue Services across the country.

The exam is conducted in three stages -- preliminary exam followed by main exam and personality test or interview.

The UPSC preliminary examination is an objective type exam and comprises two papers -- General Studies and Civil Service Aptitude Test (CSAT).

The UPSC Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2014 is scheduled to be held on August 24, 2014.

Who can apply

The candidate applying for this examination should be an Indian national, between 21 to 32 years of age as on August 1, 2014.

The candidate must possess a degree of any of universities incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under Section-3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification.

The age limit for the candidates from the general category is between 21 and 30 years, for OBC category is 21 to 33 years and SC/ST category is 21 to 35 years.

The number of attempts available to pass the exam for general, OBC and SC/ST category are four, seven and eleven respectively.

Important dates

The last date for receipt of applications is June 16, 2014.

The preliminary exam is scheduled on August 24, 2014.

The civil services main exam is scheduled on December 14, 2014.
