Andrologist and microsurgeon Dr Sudhakar Krishnamurti will be responding to rediff readers' sexual queries on a regular basis.

We invited Get Ahead readers to mail in their questions. Here is the next set of responses:

Hi Sir,

I have a query regarding the penis length and diametre. I just want to know, what is the minimum length and diametre of a penis required to have sex? I have a penis length of 4 to 4.5 inches when erect. Will it be sufficient to satisfy a girl and have kids?

Thanks in advance,
Rishi*

You may not be a serious threat to Rasputin, but your penis length is within acceptable limits. For detailed information on penis length, read Chapter 2, Fallacies about Phalluses and Chapter 16, Penis Transplants in my book, Sexx is Not a Four-Letter Word. Scientific facts are presented.

Hi Sir,

Two months back I was suffering from pain in my penis. I went to the doctor, who diagnosed it as Peyronie's Disease. He prescribed me Vit-E 400 mg twice a day for 2 months and Brufin 400 mg twice a day for a month.

Even after taking these medicines I have not got any relief and recently, I have observed that the penis has got thinner at its base by a few centimetres.

I also went through some sites which suggested that this disease must be treated by some specialist. Kindly help and suggest.

Thanks and regards,
Anonymous

Peyronie's Disease is a condition on which I have done a lot of study over the past 20 years. It is possible that your condition is Peyronie's but I can't state that without examining you. The medicines prescribed for you won't work. The disease usually has a natural history of 12 to 18 months. I would have liked to be able to examine you to get a better idea.

Doctor,

Is it harmful when girls take the i-pill 2-3 times in one month? If yes, then how many times is it safe for girls? Is it harmful for the periods?

These hormonal pills must be taken only occasionally, as an emergency, if at all. They are not recommended for routine use only because of their dangers. Try using condoms. These will also protect against STDs.

Can low sperm count, which is the cause of childlessness, be cured? If so, how? Would it be a surgical procedure or a medicative/ diet solution? Please do help.

Regards,
Ramesh

There are many causes of infertility and half of these are in the male. Unfortunately, especially in India, it is always the woman who gets investigated, whereas it is so much simpler to perform a semen analysis on the male first. If a male factor is detected, the varicocoele is the commonest correctable cause. You will need an andrological evaluation. Many cases of infertility, whether male factor or female factor, are curable. Surgery is only required sometimes.
