We'd asked you, dear readers, to tell us what your first salary was and what it meant to you at the time.
Rediff reader Stephen Pereira, 48 from Dubai tells us how he spent his first salary:

Stephen PereiraSoon after my graduation, I started my articleship for CA studies but had to wait for the results.

Since I missed securing first class by a few marks, my professor suggested that I opt for revaluation in one paper and verification in another.

He felt that my marks were not at all justified.

The results finally came on September 12, 1992.

I had achieved my dream of becoming a first class graduate and was registered officially as an articled clerk.

With my first stipend of Rs 225, I bought a sari for my mother on her birthday.

I also invested in an LIC (Life Insurance Corporation of India) policy.

When I look back, I feel elated knowing that I did my best with the small amount I received as salary.
