What: The United States of America's consular sections in India now plans to adjust the consular exchange rate.
This will reduce costs for visa and passport applications and other consular services at the US Embassy and Consulate General, including services for American citizens.
This change is effective from February 14.
New exchange rate
US $1 = Rs 46 (earlier)
US $1 = Rs 44 (now)
New Fee structure
~ The non-immigrant visa application processing fee is Rs 4,400.
~ The non-immigrant visa issuance fee is Rs 2,200, for B, H, I, L, N, O, P, Q, R, S and T visa categories.
~ The Immigrant Visa Combined Processing Fee is Rs 14, 740 ($335).
~ The passport application for children under 16 is Rs 3,080 ($70).
~ The passport application for adult renewals is Rs 2,420 ($55).
~ The charge for lost or stolen passport re-application for adults is Rs 3740 ($85).
~ The notary seal is Rs 1,320 ($30).
Photograph specifications
~ If you are applying for a visa, you must be prepared with un-mounted, passport-style, full-face colour photographs on a white background.
~ The pictures should be no more than six months old.
~ They should measure between between 2.5 cm and 3.49 cm from the bottom of the photo to the top of the head.
~ It could also have a total area of two inches by two inches which is equivalent to 5 cm x 5 cm.
How to apply
~ The $100 visa application fee will require a bank or demand draft made out to the US Embassy or Consulate General where you are applying.
~ If your visa requires an issuance fee, then you must submit a second draft made out to the Embassy or Consulate General.
~ If you want to apply for a student, exchange visitor, transit or crewman visas, then you do not need to submit this second bank draft.
~ Only bank drafts for the exact amount required on the day an application is submitted, may be accepted.
~ The US Embassy and Consulates General encourage you to fill their applications out online to speed processing at the time of interview.
