Rediff reader Aftab Ahmed who weighed 98 kilos adopted a healthy lifestyle -- a combination of good food and exercise -- and lost 16 kilos over a period of two months. This is his story.
If you too have recently lost weight, you can share your story with us.
I have been working as an accounts executive for 16 years.
My height is 5' 6", and my weight was 98 kg.
A few months ago, I fell very sick. When I went to the doctor, he wrote a few tests for me.
My fasting blood sugar level was 170 (Normal range is 70 to 100) and SPGT (Serum glutamic-pyruvic transaminase test to check for liver functioning) was 70 (Normal range is 5 to 32)
I decided to lose weight. I started walking with my friend.
It was not easy for me. I started walking 2 km every day and gradually increased it to 7 to 8 km per day on weekdays. On weekends, I'd walk 15 to 20 km.
I also did crunches and abdominal exercises for approx 40 to 45 min everyday to reduce belly fat.
Here's my detailed diet plan:
Two cups of green tea every day, morning and evening helped me to reduce belly fat.
Lunch: One bowl semi cooked sprouted moong beans along with I glass of orange juice mixed with ginger and one whole lemon every day.
Evening: One apple between 4 to 5 pm every day.
Dinner: Four rotis with mixed green vegetable curry along with 1 glass low fat milk at bedtime. ( I had dinner between 6 pm and 6.30 pm everyday)
My wife and 11 yr old daughter kept me motivated through the journey.
After two months 15 days, my weight reduced from 98 kg to 82. My fasting blood sugar level reduce from 170 to 100 (normal range) and SPGT from 70 to 25 (normal range)
I still follow the above schedule. My aim is to hit 70 kilos.
