Bollywood actress and former beauty queen Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was felicitated for being the most successful Miss World at this year's pageant.
Wearing a shimmering silver Roberto Cavalli gown, Aishwarya, 41, who won the crown in 1994, was joined on stage by her husband actor Abhishek Bachchan, mother Vrinda Rai and daughter Aaradhya as she received the honour from Miss World organiser Julia Morley last night.
"I stand here overwhelmed by this honour. I thank Miss World Organisation for such an incredible honour that I have received. To have the opportunity to hold the title, to wear the crown with pride... that was my one time to go out there and experience beauty with a purpose," Aishwarya said after accepting the honour.
Abhishek later took to twitter to share his joy on his wife receiving the honour.
"The Mrs gets awarded by Miss World as their most successful and impactful Miss World. Honoured. She got the award, I got to hold little A (Aaradhya). I got the better deal," he posted.
South African beauty Rolene Strauss was crowned Miss World 2014, while Miss Hungary, Edina Kulcsar, was the runner-up in the contest and Miss United States, Elizabeth Safrit, came in at third place.
India's Koyal Rana made it to the top 10 but failed to make it to the top five.
Priyanka Chopra was the last Indian winner of the title in 2000.
