Priced at ₹7,999, the phone is packed with competitive features, says Aparna Banerjea.

Smartron's t.Phone P (₹7,999), exclusively available on Flipkart, comes under the sub-8K category of budget phones and takes on the likes of Redmi 5A and Tenor E.

The highlights of this phone are a 5,000 mAh battery and OTG reverse charging support -- which means the phone can be used as a power bank -- which sets it apart from competitors.

Even after a day of heavy usage, the review unit had 30 per cent charge left.

The device is sleek and sturdy with an easy grip.

The fingerprint scanner at the back is very responsive.

The 5.2-inch HD display (1280x720), with capacitive touch keys at the bottom, is quite responsive and has good viewing angles.

Another notable feature is its ambient light sensor.

Running on Android Nougat v7.1.1, the smartphone has a stock OS, albeit a few minor UI tweaks along with some Smartron apps.

The device also comes pre-installed with Microsoft apps, such as Excel, PowerPoint, Word, OneNote and Skype.

Powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 processor with 3 GB RAM, the device runs smoothly.

The rear 13-megapixel (MP) takes average photos in the day, but low-light images were a huge disappointment.

The 5-megapixel selfie camera does the job.

The Smartron t.phone P is for those who want a smartphone packed with standard features and great battery life on a budget.

But it's strictly not for camera-first users.
