All of us might not need colourful lights at home. Some may just make do with the many shades of white.
The Philips Hue White Ambiance (₹12,000) is for such people.
The two 9.5-watt LED bulbs emit all colours from 3,000K (warm white) to 6,500K (cool day light), depending on the mood.
The pack also has a bridge, the interface that connects your network to the lights; and a dimmer switch.
A caveat: one needs to invest in convertors to use these bulbs on Indian sockets.

While I've used the app to set the colours earlier, it was fun cycling through the shades using the dimmer switch.
But, make sure the Wi-Fi network is strong; in case it plays truant, the commands don't work.
Connecting the bulbs to my existing Amazon Echo system at home, I was able to ask Alexa to turn the lights on or off (they work with the other voice assistants as well).
Plus, if you're sitting in bed with the dimmer switch, one can easily turn off the lights before falling asleep.
The Philips Hue White Ambiance is for those who want smart lights without the jazz.
