With the announcement of Google Nexus 6, Google finally forayed into the phablet territory with its latest flagship mobile phone, says Himanshu Juneja

Whether it was a response to the lack of presence in the phablet segment, or a way to test the waters where Samsung and more recently, Apple have set up base, Google has made it clear that is not bothered by competition.

Armed with superb configuration, and a sweet new version of Android operating system, the Nexus 6 seems well equipped to take its competitors on.

Made by Motorola, the designing has been kept as a nice mix of its own very familiar styling.

In fact, most will agree that Nexus 6 looks like a larger version of the Moto X, and that is definitely not a bad thing.

With 159.2 x 82.3 x 10mm dimensions, Motorola has imparted slim bezels to the Nexus 6 and it really looks classy.

The dual speakers make an appearance, giving a much desired boost to its audio abilities. Needless to say, a big screened device, coupled with front facing camera is bound to sway the users with a high quality multimedia experience.

The display on the all new Nexus 6 is the 5.96 QHD screen. First up, that is a HUGE display for any Nexus phone. Coming with 2560 x 1440 resolution, the pixel per inch density is a whopping 493, which makes it certain that the text remain sharp and crisp despite the huge display.

It is interesting to note, that the display is competing directly with the iphone 6 plus here. Google has made its intentions very clear.

The Nexus 6 comes with top of the line Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 chipset comprising of quad-core processor clocked at 2.7 GHz, which is serious horsepower.

As for the GPU, the device comes with Adreno 420, and add to this impressive array 3GB of RAM, the phone really is boasting of fantastic firepower.

With big players like Samsung, LG etc cranking up the specs as always, Google made sure it wasn't left behind.

The camera has been the achilles heel of the Nexus devices in general, but this time round, the story is very different.

Google Nexus 6 features a 13 MP camera, and it comes with Optical Image Stabilisation as well. Motorola provided the circular LED flash here as well.

The front camera is 2 MP and capable of capturing videos at 720p.

Nexus 6 has a 3220mAh battery, which should ease out the fears of power users. The phablet device needed some good backup in this department after carrying a brilliant and huge display. This should allow users unhindered experience for prolonged time periods.

Another advantage the Nexus 6 packs is via the latest Android ver 5 (named Lollipop). The OS is well capable of boosting the battery by a very impressive 90 minutes.

It is indeed a sweet offering as the new revamped OS will be carrying some interesting features like the Material Design, New notification array, better battery output mode among many others. It was imperative that a flagship gets a fresh-looking OS as well, and Google didn't disappoint either.

Among all the good and exciting news, finally comes the dampener. Google has decided not to sell the latest Nexus phablet for a discounted device.

This means that at the current available information, the non-contracted pricing of the 32 GB Nexus 6 phone in the US market will be $649 (~Rs 40,000), and the 64GB model to be priced at $699 (approximately Rs 43,000).

There is a chance that the official Indian pricing might be on the higher side.

The pricing definitely will be a huge jump from the days of Nexus 5, but so is the hardware prowess. To think for a minute, the Android running Nexus 6 will be cheaper than Samsung Note 4, and will be carrying far better specs as well.

How much the pricing contributes towards final interest for the prospective buyers in India, that remains to be seen, but Google is sure ready to create its presence felt in the phablet market in style.
