Motorola recently launched several mid-range mobile phones to consolidate its position in the affordable smartphone segment.
Moto X is the flagship brand of Motorola and the company has launched Moto X Play, a mid-range phone that has the configuration of a flagship device, but does not cost the earth.
The Motorola Moto X play for 16GB cots for Rs 18,499 and 32GB variant cots for Rs 19,999.
Design
Moto X Play uses high quality plastic to give this phone a solid, premium look. The edges of the Play are curved and there is a very slim bezel around the display to give it a more sophisticated look.
The front has a big chin, devoid of any physical buttons. The company has provided three capacitive touch buttons on the display to allow you to access the home, back and the multipurpose function as you use this phone.
At the top of the display, you will find the front facing camera and the proximity sensor. The volume controls are on the side; the top gets the power button and the 3.5mm audio jack port and a microSD and SIM card slot. The overall design of the phone gives it a boxy shape.
It has an overall dimension of 148mm x 75mm x 10.9mm and comes with a matte finish back cover that has a diamond shaped design, providing the user a better grip and prevents slippage.
Display
The Moto X Play brandishes a 5.5-inch full HD capacitive touchscreen that supports 1920 x 1080 pixels resolution to give you 403ppi of pixel density. It has a screen to body ratio of 74.4 percent and supports 16M colours.
The colour accuracy and contrast of this display is truly amazing. To protect this fantastic display, it is provided with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 layer as well as a water resistant coating.
The viewing angles of this phone are great and the colour saturation is optimised to give the users a fantastic viewing experience.
Camera
Motorola Moto X Play is blessed with two shooters that gives the user a fantastic experience, be it taking still photos, shooting high quality videos or conducting video chats over Skype. The primary shooter is a 20.1MP beast that is accompanied with f/2.0 aperture and CCT (Colour Correlated Temperature) flash with dual-LED modules.
It also has Phase Detect Auto-Focus and has the ability to record full HD videos at 30fps. The shooter also has some inbuilt features, such as tap anywhere to capture; slow motion video support; video stabilisation; 4X digital zoom; burst mode; night mode; auto HDR; Panorama and drag to focus and exposure.
In addition, the Moto X Play also has a 5MP front-facing camera that shoots quality selfies or videos via Skype.
Processor
Motorola Moto X Play is equipped with a very powerful and capable octa-core Qualcomm MSM8939 Snapdragon 615 (Quad-core 1.7 GHz Cortex-A53 & quad-core 1.0 GHz Cortex-A53) processor along with Adreno 403 GPU. This combination is powerful enough to run the most power hogging games available in the market smoothly without any hitch.
Operating system and UI
Moto X Play comes loaded with the latest Android 5.1.1 Lollipop OS with its own UI overlaid on the top. It features, Moto Display that allows the user to see the time and other notifications on the lock screen without putting on the mobile phone.
The handset detects when you pick it up and automatically shows this information without any input from your side. It also supports quick gestures to switch on the flashlight (shake the phone twice) or open the camera app (twist your wrist twice while holding the phone).
Connectivity
This powerful device is blessed with a wide gamut of connectivity options, including dual SIM dual standby, 4G, 3G, 2G, Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n, Wi-Fi direct, Wi-Fi Hotspot, Bluetooth v4.0 with A2DP, NFC, USB High speed 2.0 and micro USB support, GPS and A-GPS.
Sensors
For better user experience, the next generation Moto X Play is provided with a whole set of sensors, including Accelerometer, Proximity sensor and compass. Unfortunately, it does not have any Gyroscope, which we believe may affect the motion sensor games.
Storage options
Moto X Play is available in 16GB and 32GB of ROM variants along with 2GB of RAM. It also has a microSD card slot that allows you to add a further 128GB of external memory to it, if they so desire.
Battery
The Moto X Play is equipped with a humongous 3630mAh Li-ion battery that will provide you with enough juice to run for a long time without worrying about the power.
Other features
This smart looking smartphone is also believed to feature several other elements that will make it such value for money for the customers.
These features include Voice dialing, Voice commands, Voice recording, photo and video editor, FM with RDS recording, HTML 5 browser, document viewer, highly capable audio and video player that supports a wide range of formats.
Motorola, like Moto G3, has made Moto X Play resistant from water and dust, thanks to its advanced nano-coating technology.
With advancing technology, many smartphone makers are providing high-end features at affordable price range to make a good hold in the market. It will be interesting to see how competitors will respond to this beauty.
