If we go by the specifications, the Oppo Reno 2 series phones are lighter versions of the flagship Oppo Reno launched in May this year.

This series, though, places more emphasis on the camera.

Let's take a look:

Camera

The Oppo Reno 2 -- the premium phone among the three -- has a higher spec quad camera set-up at the rear; the first is a 48MP camera with a Sony IMX586 sensor and a f/1.7 wide aperture, supported by OIS for enhanced low light photography.

The second is an 8MP wide angle camera, the third is a 13MP telephoto camera and the fourth is a 2MP monochrome lens, depth sensing camera for shooting portraits with background blur.

These cameras provide 5x hybrid zoom and 20x digital zoom.

For selfies, it replicates the same 16MP shark fin popup camera setup used in the Oppo Reno.

We tried out some features in the phone camera; here's a quick look.

Ultra Dark Mode

The ultra dark mode is used for low light photography.

The camera takes three shots in burst mode and compiles it to one brighter image.

Video bokeh

Now, just like you can do with an image, the camera lets you take videos with a blurred background.

You have to enable the video bokeh option in the camera app to shoot a video with the bokeh effect.

The video bokeh is gimmicky; in the sample video below you can see that, while the model is separated from the background, the edge detection is not that perfect.

And when there is more than one person in the frame at the same distance, the camera finds it difficult to separate the person and the background.

20x Zoom

Oppo ditches its periscope zoom camera setup; instead, the camera provides 5x hybrid and 20x digital zoom.

The hybrid zoom is achieved using the camera hardware and software algorithm.

Here's an example of the same photo shot at different zoom levels.

Hardware

It is powered by Qualcomm's powerful Snapdragon 730G processor.

This phone comes with 8GB RAM memory and 256 GB ROM storage, that can be expanded up to 256 GB using a micro SD card in a shared dual SIM slot.

The 4000 mAh battery ensures the phone runs the whole day. The battery can be quick charged by Oppo's fast charging VOOC Flash Charge 3.0.

It is available for Rs 36,990.
