Ramzan Recipe: How to make Dahi Wada

Here, Reshma tells us how to make crispy Dahi Wadas.

Dahi Wada

Ingredients

  • 2 cups urad dal
  • 1 cup yellow moong dal
  • 3 cups thick curd with sugar, beaten well.
  • 20 gm tamarind pulp
  • 20 gm jaggery
  • 1 tsp chilli powder
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 1 tsp chaat masala
  • 1 tsp pepper powder
  • 1/4 cup coriander leaves chopped
  • Oil for frying
  • Salt according to taste

Method

How to make tamarind chutney

  • Boil equal quantities of tamarind and jaggery in a cup of water for five minutes.
  • Grind in a mixer once it cools. The chutney is ready.

How to make Dahi Wada

  • Soak urad dal and moong dal in water in separate bowls overnight. Drain water and grind them separately the next morning.
  • Mix them together and add cumin powder, pepper powder and salt. Let the mixture rest for three to four hours.
  • Roll into small balls and deep fry them.
  • Once they turn golden brown, soak them immediately in a bowl of water.
  • Squeeze the water out and leave them on a plate to air.
  • Now pour sweet curd over wadas.
  • Garnish with tamarind chutney, chaat masala, chilli powder and coriander leaves.
