According to the India Skills Report 2020, Maharashtra emerged as the top ranked state in terms of employability, followed by Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh.

The India Skills Report 2020 is a joint initiative of Wheebox, a global talent-assessment company, PeopleStrong and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in collaboration with UNDP (United Nations Development Programme), AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education) and AIU (Association of Indian Universities).
The seventh edition of the report was assessed across 28 states and 9 union territories in the country. Over 3,00,000 candidates appeared for the test.
Here are some interesting findings from The India Skills Report 2020:
- About 54% of the youth in India are not employed.
- Availability of employable talent has improved over the past six years.
- Approx 46% students were found employable or ready to take up jobs in 2019, compared with 33% in 2014, and 47.38% in 2018
- Maharashtra emerged as the top ranked state in terms of employability, followed by Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh.
- In the terms of cities, Mumbai (Maharashtra) emerged as the top employable city, followed by Hyderabad (Telangana), Bengaluru (Karnataka), New Delhi, Pune (Maharashtra), Lucknow (UP), and Chennai (Tamil Nadu).
- The report showed a growth rate of 47% in 2019 against 38% in 2017 and 46% in 2018 in female employability.
- The most employable candidates as per courses were MBA (Master of Business Administration) students. The figure which stands at 54% this year was 40% in both 2017 and 2018.
- Other courses such as Bachelor of Pharmacy, Polytechnic, Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Arts saw improvement in employability with a 15% increase in 2019 as against 2018.
- Courses which have declined in terms of employability were Bachelor of Technology, engineering, Master of Computer Applications, technical and computer-related courses.
