Gram Sweet
Ingredients
1 fresh coconut
250 (1 cup) gm gram or channa dal
500 gm (1/2 cup) sugar
2 to 3 tbsp ghee
6 green cardamom or elaichi
Method
Grate and grind coconut fine. Clean, wash and boil channa dal. Grind it. Make a thick syrup of sugar and a little water. Add the coconut and dal. Keep stirring. Add cardamom powder and ghee. When it leaves the sides of the pan put into a greased dish. When set, cut into slices/shapes and serve.
Dhodhol/Alva
Ingredients
1/2 kg raw rice
4 coconuts
1 kg jaggery (or black jaggery)
Salt to taste
1 cup ghee
100 gm (1/3 cup) raisins
100 gm (1/3 cup) almonds
Method
Wash, soak and grind the rice; grind coconuts and extract milk. Add jaggery and salt to taste. Boil till dry and sticky, stirring continuously. Add sliced almonds and plums and further cook till it leaves the side of the vessel. Pour onto a greased dish. When it cools, cut into pieces.
