Sharon Prabhakar gets candid

The still effervescent Sharon Prabhakar was spotted at the Lakme Fashion Week bright and early on Day 2. Insiyah Vahanvaty caught up with her for a casual tete-a-tete.

Why are you at the Lakme Fashion Week?
That's a very relevant question. I'm here because my daughter Shahzan is walking for designer Pallavi Murdia today. She was the showstopper for Nikhil and Shantanu's show yesterday. Also, she's the Brand Ambassador for Gitanjali.

You were seen walking in with Kabir and Pooja Bedi.
Yes, they are old family friends of mine. Also, Pooja's daughter is walking the ramp for the same designer that Shahzan is.

What do you think of four Fashion Weeks this year? Is it a benefit or drawback?
It's very intense but what's wrong with that? Earlier, fashion used to be restricted to saris and salwaar kameezes only. We're right now in the process of change. And change always leads to clutter, chaos and choice. It's good to have choices, don't you think? From the grand point of view, why should we restrict ourselves to one show a year? Let there be a designer around each corner. That creates consumer need, and that is a good thing.

Fashion is fast becoming a serious business. I mean, I'm thinking of starting my own line soon. Someone told me I should start a Diva line, but I think diva clothes need to be wearable more than anything else.

Does India take size zero too seriously?
Yes, there is an obsession with being thin. Almost to an unhealthy extent. But, having said that, I also have to tell you that my daughter is beyond a size zero. She's so sukdi.

Overheard (Sharon to someone else): Shahzan is such a short little thing. She came to me and said, "Mamma, I want to be a showstopper." I said, "Ya, right, gitthu!"
