Wardrobe malfunctions: The fashion industry hits back

With wardrobe malfunctions rocking Indian fashion weeks every now and then, accusations are flying back and forth that such incidents are staged for cheap publicity. We decided to talk to the fashion fraternity and find out the real reason behind wardrobe malfunctions. Here's what they had to say:

Video: Wardrobe malfunction at Fashion Week in Delhi

Abhishek Datta, designer: I think they are purely accidental, they are being hyped up unnecessarily. These incidents shouldn't be the centre of attention, the designer's work and creativity should. Mistakes happen sometimes, you have to give people a second chance.

Shonal Rawat, model: When you have to change your clothes under 30 seconds, anything can happen! All our girls are so professional on the ramp, but personally these incidents are tragedies for them. To anyone who says wardrobe malfunctions are deliberate, I would suggest you try changing outfits under 30 seconds repeatedly and see whether something doesn't go wrong every now and then!

Priya Sankaran, model: It's a very difficult thing to keep in control, it's not in our hands. Hopefully, things will get better organised -- infact, we now have stylists from abroad at our shows, who check our outfits before we go onstage.

Freddy Darruwala, model: It's a part of the ballgame. No one wants it to happen, but you have to manage so much at one time it happens sometimes -- no one does it intentionally.

Ruchi Mehta, designer: I'm just hope it doesn't happen to me! Also, I doubt any designer would deliberately sabotage his/ her reputation by pulling such a cheap publicity stunt -- I don't think it's ever been intentional.

Kallol Datta, designer: I wouldn't call any of the incidents that have taken place at Indian fashion weeks so far 'wardrobe malfunctions'. They are just mistakes. A 'malfunction' is when you walk onto the ramp in an outfit and every single button falls off mid-way! These, on the other hand, are just slip-ups that happen at fashion events everywhere.
