So we come back to the core question -- should you be buying a PlayStation 2? If you're new to console gaming, the answer is a resounding yes. The PlayStation 2 provides tremendous value for money with the most impressive collection of games ever seen on a video game console. Games for the PS2 are cheaper than on any other console in the market, and the PS2's reliability and performance has been proven time and again over its eight years in existence.
To add to an impressive and expansive library of games, which includes classics such as Shadow of the Colossus and the God of War games, Sony India has signed up 13 Indian game developers to develop new games for the PS2, games that will appeal to the Indian audience. There has also been a steady stream of casual games such as the SingStar series of karaoke titles, the Buzz quiz games and a bunch of games that employ the Eye Toy camera accessory.
Sure, the newer consoles are more powerful and technologically-advanced, with games that are beautifully presented in high definition. But for someone new to gaming, it may be a little overwhelming.
These consoles, similar to PCs, are complicated and lack the simple pop-in-and-play approach that the PlayStation 2 personifies. Of course, once the PS2 does get you hooked, the likes of the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii serve as ideal successors for those looking for more.
Yet, with its unbeatable price and awe-inspiring catalogue of games, the PlayStation 2 just cannot, and should not, be overlooked.
