Nokia E71: QWERTY may annoy you

July 8, 2008

TNokia not only offers the widest range of smartphones but is also well known for having enormous experience in this category. This said it wouldn't be wrong to assume that they would also develop the best smartphones as well. Any seasoned E-series user will instantaneously realise that E71 is thinner than previous models as soon as they pick it up.

Similar to existing E-series models, the E71 comes equipped with an updated Symbian OS v9.2 on an updated S60 UI. The processor is a downclocked version on the ARM11 processor found in the iPhone with 128MB SDRAM and 112MB of internal storage. Unlike the iPhone and the Touch Diamond, the E71 has a modified QWERTY keypad, forcing Nokia to reduce screen size to 320x240 in order to stick to a compact design. The modified QWERTY keypad may irritate those who are used to quick typing due to the re-arrangement of the letters. The user interface is sharp and well-lit while text is crisp and clear.

The screen is a TFT QVGA and displays 16 million colours. It comes equipped with a 3.2MP LED flash auto focus camera. The icing on the cake is really the connectivity. It offers support for everything right from WLAN to HSCSD in terms of networking options. Again a standard Li-Ion 1500mAh battery is a part of the package and Nokia estimates a talk-time of around 10.5 hours.

This smartphone is seriously recommended for those who have grown used to the E-series from Nokia. It's priced approximately at Rs 20,000.
