Geographic Information Systems popularly known as GIS, is a rapidly growing technological field for resource planning and management.
It has wide applications in almost all the fields of infrastructure development like land use planning, utilities management, landscape assessment and planning, transportation and infrastructure planning, real estate analysis, telecommunications, power transmission and distribution and many other unlimited applications. GIS and Remote Sensing (RS) have already influenced us in almost every aspect of life.
The main aim of the course is to develop a pool of trained manpower readily available for recruitment in various utilities working on GIS and Remote Sensing fields.
About NPTI
National Power Training Institute, a national apex body setup by the Govt, of India, under Ministry of Power, has been engaged in the service of Human Resources Development in the Power sector for near four decades. NPTI has been conducting training and educational programs in the areas of Thermal/ Hydro/ Power Systems/Management etc.
The academic courses like MBA (Power Management), B.Tech (Power), PGDC in Thermal Power Engg and Power System courses are well established courses having very good placement records.
About the course
This is a one-year full time programme comprising of various modules in Geographical Information Systems and Remote Sensing to address the emerging needs of the industries.
The course has been designed with an optimum blend of theory and practical. The theory provides a sound knowledge base to cover basic concepts supplemented by rich exposure to various domains through industry experts for application development. On the other hand, adequate classroom practical exercises supplemented by proper-on-the-job training at various industries would prepare the students to match the industry demands in GIS profession.
Formal classroom coaching will be held at the Centre of Excellence in GIS at NPTI Corporate Office, located at Sector - 33, Faridabad.
Eligibility
Engineering Graduates / Graduates or Hons. Graduate in Science / Geography / Geology/ Agriculture/ IT.
Selection Criteria for Admission
Merit (% of marks) & GD / Personal interview.
Age Limit
For non-sponsored candidates the age limit as on 01.8.2008 is 30 years. No age limit for the sponsored candidates.
Total Seats
50 (Fifty). Reservation for SC/ST & others as per Govt, of India Norms.
Placement
First batch of 50 students have been successfully placed for on job training in various reputed firms like KLG Systel, INCA Informatics, Intec Info, Xplore, DRDO, NPCL & CES etc.

Application forms can be downloaded from NPTI website (www.npti.nic.in) and should be submitted to the address below, along with a crossed demand draft for Rs 500/- in favour of NPTI, Faridabad.

- Display of short listed candidates on NPTI's website: July 24, 2008
