'There's a lot more to life if a career in entertainment doesn't work out for you'

September 11, 2007
Who is your favourite actress in the industry? How has she inspired you and your career?
Madhuri Dixit and Tabu are my favourites -- I can't even aspire to be like them! Madhuri has an edge to her, she's a born Bollywood siren. As for Tabu, I love how she slips into the skins of her characters so naturally.

Which recent movies other than your own has suitably impressed you in recent times?
I loved Honeymoon Travels -- I've hardly had the time to watch any other movie lately, I've been busy with work.

How has your successful career impacted your personal life? Do you feel like you've had to sacrifice a few personal pleasures in favour of your job, or are you a workaholic who thrives under pressure?
My career hasn't taken a very heavy toll on my personal life, except that I'm always working weekends, while the rest of my friends are chilling together on those days. I have become a workaholic to some extent -- if I sit at home for more than three days in a week, I'll go crazy!

What are your views on exposure and explicit scenes in movies?
There is too much hypocrisy in our country with regards to this. The public can't seem to get enough of stripping, smooching etc on the big screen, but a peck on the cheek in real life suddenly goes against Indian culture and is summed up in a lawsuit! Personally, I'm not comfortable with too much intimacy on screen, but daring outfits, so long as they are tasteful and can be carried off without looking cheap or vulgar, are alright by me.

What tips do you have for today's youngsters looking for jobs in the industry?
Give things your best shot and absolutely be yourself. Remember that there's lots more to life if it doesn't work out for you in this industry.
