'If you're not comfortable with what your wearing, don't wear it -- it won't work'

October 30, 2007
What kind of fashion do you like? What's your signature style and which is your favourite brand?
I just love pyjamas, kurtas, colour. I'm into a lot of pouches, belts, Goa-like clothes. I've not been too brand-conscious. Only after GG happened I started shopping at high-end stores. But now I really like Promod. The dark textures and black, beige and grey tones of the clothes are beautiful. I also like Mango. Other than that, I haven't really been exposed to labels yet -- if others come into the market and I fall within the economic framework to buy them, I guess I will.

And your personal style mantra? What kind of person is Rachel Varghese, style-wise?
Rachel Varghese, when she's not under the media glare, has very relaxed clothing sense. Although after winning GG I have an image to maintain, I do try to keep it relaxed -- if I'm wearing skinny jeans, for instance, I'll team them with a simple tee shirt, you know, keep it basic. I don't go over the top. I really love colour and I used to make my own clothes -- stuff I never wore would be cut up and sewn into patchwork skirts and things. I'd still dress like that, but not when I'm around the media!

Wear what you're comfortable in -- if you do, you'll be confident and it'll shine through. Enjoy your clothes, be happy with what you wear. If you don't like what you see in the mirror, change. My friends get annoyed with me because I sometimes change a dozen times before deciding what to step out in, but then my advice is, if you're not comfortable with what your wearing, don't wear it -- it won't work!
