MBA programmes: Which should you choose?

You've made up your mind; you want an MBA.

But should you study in India? Or does it make sense to earn the degree in a foreign university?

What are the costs associated with an MBA?

And what's the most important part of your application? Is it your GMAT scores or your work experience?

Aman Bansal and Rahul Abrol chatted on June 15 and answered questions about domestic and international MBA programmes. They also discussed the GMAT exam -- how to prepare for it and when to take it.

Yogesh Arora asked, Sir can you Please Tell me which one Stream is Better to do MBA for a graduate in Computer Engg.

Engineering management.


Manoj asked, Sir I have got an offer from Virginia tech pamplin for MBA. Please convey the placement prospects after MBA from this institute.

Aman Bansal answers, 
Manoj, my student went there last year. It is a good school from placement angle.


anurag asked, Hi my name is anurag & i m working as consultant( highways) in a consultant firm , i got approximately 4 years of experiment .. My question to u sir , that i wanted to MBA . But my concern is that i wanted to complete the course in one year ... would u plz suggest which r the god institute in india & abroad , what is fee structure ? In abroad what r chances of getting a scholarship .

Rahul Abrol answers, 
You can go for an MBA executive course of one year. There are few scolarships given for top MBAs.

Yes, you can.


sandesh asked, I am an Army Officer with 20 years of experience with telecom background. will cracking GMAT help in selecting second career?

Yes, it certainly would.

MBA general management or specialisation in equity.

Rony, analysis of practice tests is key to improving grammar.

Placements are good for this programme. 


shirajs asked,  Whats the score that we shud luk fwd to for applying in London Business School and also the work exp?

Aman Bansal answers, 
Four-five years of work experience is average and 710+ on the GMAT. 


bunty asked, sir, do all the universities abroad have a mandatory requirement for TOEFL/IELTS

Aman Bansal answers, 
Yes, it is a mandatory requirement.


Vamsi asked, How are the chances of getting job in AUSTRALIA after finisher MBA there.?

Rahul Abrol answers,
You have a good chance getting a job in either Australia or India after Australian MBA. 


janaki asked, are there any universities abroad for which work experience is not required?as in finish engg and apply for MBA

Rahul Abrol answers, 
There are many universities which don't require work experience. Do research. 


Akash asked, Hello sir, I am a scientist with 2 year work experiance, and my work is releted to application rather than research I have done M.Sc with gold medal and I am through out first class Now I am planning to apear GMAT for S.P.jain Dubai, And ISB hyderabad will They will consider my Experiance and tell me some other institution from where I can do MBA one year

NTU in Singapore and HKUST in Hong Kong are good for a one year MBA.

You should go towards finance.

No, it is a misconception and untrue.

For a good MBA programme, you should try to have at least two years of work experience.

Rahul Abrol answers, 
Approximately Rs. 15,00,000 (15 lakhs).

Rahul Abrol answers, 
GMAT is a computer adaptive test. It's recommened for an MBA abroad or in India.


gargonlynitin asked, I am a recruitment consultant with 2years of work ex,amy salry is around 20k per month, Should I go for a regular MBA in institutes like IIPM or ICFAI because I can not get admission in IIMs or Like.

Wait for a little more time, take the GMATs and try to gain admissions in a US MBA programme.

No, your work experience is good.

720+ on GMAT for admissions, but aid is never guaranteed.

No, there is no age discrimination in US colleges.

Take the GMATs and apply to business schools that match your profile.

I strongly suggest regular as opposed to correspondence.

Above 700 is great, but a good GMAT score is not the only ticket to business school. It also depends on your resume, personal essays and recommendations.


Santhosh asked, Hi, Can I appear for the GMAT exam in December/ January and still make it to the Fall session?(I have 5 yrs work experience so far.) When should I prepare for the subsequent procedures(application, etc.)? Thank you!!

Yes, in some universities. You should try and take it at an earlier date.

Depends on your vision. I recommend the GMAT for its international exposure.

MBA without work experience is difficult. An MS, though, is very much possible.

50% of the tuition costs is excellent.

I would say, in most cases, the foreign degree gives broader career options in the future.

Full time MBA is strongly recommended.

MBA in technology managment would be good. The university depends on his profile and his GMAT score.
