What: British Council invites applications for the International Young Music Entrepreneur of the Year 2007 award.

This award is designed to celebrate the importance of creative entrepreneurs working in the international music sector. This includes entrepreneurial ability, creative leadership, networking, and capacity building in the international music industry, particularly reinforcing engagement between young creative entrepreneurs in these markets and the UK.

Prize

The winner will be encouraged to come up with their own proposal on how to spend the prize money, along with your local British Council office and the specialist art form departments in London. 

The winner will get a cash prize of £7,500 (approximately Rs 648,956), which will be linked to the UK and tailored to his or her specific needs.

Ideas include for the winner to take a course in the UK, fund a placement in UK industry, bring over UK specialists to run workshops in-country, buy rights, or work on collaborative projects with contacts from their visit to the UK.

Selection procedure

You must be professionally active in the local music sector, as defined below:

  • Record companies, artists and repertoire, producing, recording, engineering, music licensing, and distribution
  • Venue and/or festival programming and management
  • Artists management and agents
  • Music broadcasting
  • Music journalism and publishing
  • Music development & management
  • Music marketing, public and media relations
  • Music retail, online (including digital) and high street outlets

Are you eligible?

~ You must be between 25 and 35 years of age.

~ You must already have worked in the music sector as defined above.

~ You must be entrepreneurial and have shown your ability and innovative approach to the promotion of music in your country, particularly in a commercial context.

~ Through your character, drive and abilities, you must demonstrate your potential to be a future leader of the sector in your country.

~ You must have English language skills of the standard of IELTS 6 or above.
