Thanks to a booming economy and a strong rupee, foreign trips are also seeing a surge in popularity.
For instance, Makemytrip.com sells an average of 1,500 domestic packages in a month, but "outbound has also seen a surge, with easing of visa restrictions and foreign exchange regulations," says Jeevan Jagga, deputy manager, business development.
"Indian favourites include Bangkok and other South East Asian destinations with close to 300 packages sold in a month," he adds.
Tips for travel
- Book early to ensure definite accommodation. Three to five weeks is ideal.
- Booking early gives you the advantage of getting accommodation in a hotel to suit your budget. You are bound to get discounts too.
- Plan for visas a few months in advance
- Get the essential details of your package like hotel name, services provided and the schedule from your travel service provider.
- Be aware of extra charges if any before you book the package.
- Read the terms and conditions or fine print well.
