Do you remember celebrating Raksha Bandhan as a kid? There was the excitement of choosing/ making the right rakhi, the aarti, the sweets and then getting the clumsily wrapped gift from your brother.

  • Wish your sibling, today!

  • Over the years, the gifting trend for the festival has gone through a whirlwind of change. Nowadays, it's not just brothers who buy gifts for their sisters; sisters buy gifts for their brothers as well.

Traditionally, gold or silver coins, coconuts and money were given as auspicious tokens. Today, the palette of gifts has increased -- from diamond earrings to yummy boxes of chocolates, sexy shirts to exotic perfumes.

But the best mantra is to be thoughtful and unique.

If your sister or brother already knows what she or he is going to get from you, then you really need to work at thinking up a novel gift for them. Spruce up your creativity and get to know your sibling's tastes better.

Flowers, a box of chocolates and clothes are predictable, yet appreciated, but those staid-looking currency notes are a complete no-no. It's not your money that your sibling necessarily wants, it's your affection.

Take time out to think of a unique gift. Of course, if your sibling is fond of predictable gifts, get it for them by all means, but club it with something special and exciting that truly matches his/ her style.
