The Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles (IFFLA) will see an unusual film make its world premiere.
Mumbai Cutting has been directed by some of the most reputed directors like Sudhir Mishra (Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi), Jahnu Barua (Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Mara), Ayush Raina, Shashank Ghosh (Waisa Bhi Ho Raha Hai Part II), Ruchi Narain (Kal), Rahul Dholakia (Parzania), Manish Jha (Matrubhoomi: A Nation Without Women), Revathy (Phir Milenge), Kundan Shah (Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron), (Rituparno Ghosh (Raincoat) and Anurag Kashyap (Black Friday).
Shashank tells us that Mumbai Cutting not only portrays the 'life of a Mumbaikar but also of refugees like me, who've left their homeland and found a new home here.'
"This film has a thread called 'Mumbai' that is running throughout," Revathy says. "I've shown a facet of Mumbai where human rights are taken for granted by the victims of injustice and where sexual favours are a way of life and not an eye raising issue."
Manish Jha claims that the idea of making a film on Mumbai got him excited, besides the fact that he got to work with the finest directors. "My film in Mumbai Cutting is an optimistic one," he says. "It is a city of hope and that's what my film portrays."
The film will star Sonali Kulkarni, Ranvir Sheorey, Vinay Pathak, Soha Ali Khan, Sushant Singh, Jimmy Shergil, Tara Sharma, Raima Sen, Palash Sen, Tejaswini Kolhapure, Rahul Dev, Deepak Dobriyal and Dipannita Sharma, among others.
Mumbai Cutting will be premiered on April 27 in Hollywood's Arclights theatre.
