One of the biggest motion pictures of the year will be released in India the same week as its US release.
War Of The Worlds is Steven Spielberg's adaptation of the seminal H G Wells novel. The director calls it his first 'really scary film about really scary aliens,' and Tom Cruise stars in the lead role.
In a press conference in Mumbai on Thursday, Kurt Rider, Vice President, Sales & Marketing (Asia), of Paramount Films announced the studio's creation of a stronger distribution network in India.
He said India has better market potential than China and promised to bring films like The Interpreter, Madagascar, and Peter Jackson's King Kong later this year to India.
This year has already seen several simultaneous film releases in India by major Hollywood studios, like Batman Begins and Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge Of The Sith. The studios are confident that this measure will help them combat piracy to some extent.
War Of The Worlds is hitting Indian shores with a total of 160 prints across the country and releasing in English, Hindi and Tamil on July 1.
