Chicago (2002)
A movie adaptation of choreographer-director Bob Fosse's 1975 Broadway musical, Chicago is a 1920s story of merry murderesses who go to extreme lengths to achieve their few minutes of tabloid fame.

Roxie Hart (Renée Zellweger) is one of those people who will do anything to be famous. Unfortunately, she starts off on the wrong foot by killing a man who lied to her about getting her a break. While in jail, Roxie becomes a front-page item, thanks to her suave lawyer Billy Flynn (Richard Gere) who makes her seem like the wronged one. Even as Roxie daydreams of song and dance numbers while in prison, she competes with her 'rival' and current rage singer/dancer Velma Kelly (Catherine Zeta-Jones) for media attention.

With each actor and actress doing his or her own singing, the film's sheer scale and exuberance, strong performances and a fine musical blend made Chicago stand out.
